Tuesday's Top Tip: Did you know.... If you wouldn't say broken arm child for a child who has a broken arm, then the same is appropriate for people with disabilities.... E.g. Not down's child but child has Down Syndrome. Not autistic child but child has Autism. Not dyslexic child but child has Dyslexia. It is a mindset - Disability does not describe anyone; any more than a broken arm does and that is why we use Nouns rather than Adjectives when we discuss disability!!!! When we acknowledge disability as one element of the range of an individual's ABILITIES, we are on the right track.
