Children need to be able to hear
Last month I went to a Professional Learning morning on hearing loss and Central Auditory Processing Disorder. Did you know that all children benefit from a hearing check a number of times during their early childhood? In fact the first check occurs in the first three days after birth. It is highly recommended that follow up checks are made. If hearing loss is detected, further testing is required ASAP. Hearing loss in early childhood can have ongoing consequences for speech... and language development and, therefore academic progress later in life. Temporary hearing loss will also impact the child in this way. And yes! There is an app that can help you with that!! It is called Sound Scouts and it costs $14.99. You can use it to screen your child's hearing from as young as 4 yrs 9 months. I have purchased this app and can use it as part of my assessment process.
